About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist to join our General and Specialist Medicine teams. In this leadership role, you will provide specialist Occupational Therapy skills for a diverse caseload, with a strong focus on frailty and complex medical patients. You will play a pivotal part in driving excellence in clinical practice, service development, and multi-disciplinary team (MDT) leadership.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the clinical delivery and evaluation of therapy services within General & Specialist Medicine.
- Provide expert Occupational Therapy intervention for general, specialist medical, and frailty patients.
- Act as a key source of therapeutic clinical expertise, advice, and support across the MDT.
- Develop robust communication networks with clinical specialists across the health economy to ensure efficient service provision.
- Design and deliver postgraduate training programs in collaboration with the MDT.
- Support clinical governance initiatives, including the development of evidence-based clinical standards, audits, research projects, and risk management strategies.
Day-to-Day Duties:
- Undertake holistic assessment, treatment planning, and evaluation of therapy interventions.
- Lead on the development and management of integrated care programmes and discharge planning.
- Line manage and clinically supervise a team, including Band 5s, Band 6s, Therapy Assistants, and students.
- Provide professional leadership, mentoring, and specialist advice to colleagues.
- Collaborate closely with the MDT to ensure the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred care.
- Lead MDT meetings and case discussions when required.
- Manage a caseload of complex patients, demonstrating advanced clinical reasoning and decision-making.
- Regularly evaluate patient outcomes and support team members in complex case reviews.
What We’re Looking For:
- HCPC-registered Occupational Therapist.
- Significant post-registration experience in acute and/or specialist medicine settings.
- Proven leadership, supervision, and mentoring skills.
- Advanced clinical reasoning and evidence-based practice skills.
- Strong communication and multidisciplinary team working skills.
- Commitment to clinical excellence, service innovation, and professional development.
