The role
As a Functional Assessor, your main task will be to assess individuals and how their disabilities or conditions affect their work life. Drawing on your clinical expertise, you'll listen carefully and take down each person's medical history before performing a physical examination. You'll then produce concise, accurate reports for the Department of Work &amp; Pensions (DWP) so they can decide each person's eligibility for benefits.
The role involves meeting people both face-to-face and via telephone/video. But whether you connect online or in person, you'll be sensitive, compassionate and able to ask the right questions while upholding best practice standards.
Rest assured that you'll have the time you need to make a precise assessment and give each person your whole attention. And while you'll work unsupervised, you'll be part of a wider multi-disciplinary team - support is all part of the package.

About you
An HCPC registered Occupational Therapist with a minimum of 12 months' post-registration experience within the past five years.
Continuous Professional Development present on your CV.
Great oral and written communication skills, with the ability to negotiate and respond to a rapidly changing environment.
IT skills and experience of using a range of software
Self-aware and focused on professional development
Honest and able to maintain integrity and customer confidentiality
Motivated to contribute to quality customer service, demonstrating empathy, respect and sensitivity in assessment delivery.

Occupational Therapist Functional Assessor

We are working with an NHS organisation based in the South of England, who are looking for a RMN, OT or QSW to work with the Adult Mental Health Team, providing a high-quality service across all areas of the Adult Mental Health Service. The role will be working at a NHS Band 6 and the AMHTs operate a 24-hour, 7-day week service. Post holders will be expected to provide a flexible service in accordance to the needs of the service and service users. Job Summary: The post holder will work within the Adult Mental Health Team, providing mental health treatment in the community for patients with mental needs identified within Cluster 4-17 Supporting patients to work towards their own recovery. The post holder will act as CPA Care Co-ordinator for a case load of patients. The post holder will also provide home treatment for patients experiencing a mental health crisis. Key responsibilities: * Work independently as part of a multidisciplinary team to diagnose, assess, plan and implement patient specific programmes of care/interventions, contributing to the continuous assessment of patients; * Undertake more complex assessments, using your profession specific clinical knowledge and skills; * Function effectively across a variety of environments (e.g. ward, department, patients’ homes etc) involving changing and demanding conditions; * To use a comprehensive range of verbal and non-verbal communication tools to communicate effectively with patients, and their families/carers, the diagnosis and treatment plan, that may be complex and sensitive, to help progress rehabilitation. This will include patients who may have difficulties with understanding or communication; * Evaluate patient progress and alter treatment programmes as and when appropriate; * To involve patients in goals and treatment proposals. To work within the legal framework with patients who lack capacity for informed consent or are subject to the Mental Health Act; * Supervise the practice of designated registered and non-registered staff within the AMHT.
