Salary: £37,689 - £44,699.20 per year dependant on qualifications and experience
Hours: 40 hours per week – Full year contract (open to Term time plus 2 weeks = 41 weeks total) We are looking for an enthusiastic Specialist Occupational Therapist to work as part of a therapy team in our Primary and Secondary Specialist School which provides flexible day placements for students aged 6-16 years with complex care needs including behaviours that challenge and learning disabilities, often in association with autism spectrum conditions. The role: * Providing an Occupational Therapy Service, which is run in an efficient manner so that students’ needs are met effectively. * Assessing the occupational, functional and sensory limitations of children within their academic and wider settings. * To write in-depth reports demonstrating clinical reasoning skills that are based on the analysis of findings from the assessments carried out within a specified time frame. * To work collaboratively with the child, their support network, and other agencies, in order to effectively communicate the needs of the child and how these needs can be best met. * To deliver individualised interventions as outlined within the child’s EHCP and identified through Occupational Therapy assessment. * To advise and source, where appropriate, specialist equipment believed to help address the occupational needs of the child or young person. * To liaise effectively with senior managers, SENCO and all teaching staff such that best practice is evidenced throughout the whole curriculum. * To be professionally and legally accountable and responsible for all aspects of your own work including the management of students in your care. * To provide professional support, leadership and supervision as appropriate to Occupational Therapy Assistants. * To provide Occupational Therapy training, support and advice to members of the multidisciplinary teams. * To maintain regular records of intervention using agreed protocols and in line with the code of professional conduct. * To attend appropriate multidisciplinary student reviews and team meetings; promoting our culture of joint working with other disciplines and outside agencies. Experience /Qualifications: * A recognised degree in Occupational Therapy * Current registration of the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). * Previous experience in an Occupational Therapist role, preferably with children and young adults. * Have at least two years post-graduate experience working as a Paediatric Occupational Therapist. * Experience and qualifications in Sensory Integration Theory to at least level 3 as recognised by the Sensory Integration Network. * Driving Licence and Vehicle Business Insurance. 1. To provide an initial assessment of service users with complex care and therapy needs across the teams within the Access and Independence Service: First Response, Reablement and the Assessment Service.
2. Support service users to set client centred goals to promote independence and wellbeing in the home environment. Facilitate service user choice and empowerment through promoting independence, the timely provision of information, advice and support using evidence-based interventions to ensure service users maintain independence for as long as possible.
3. Assessment and provision of equipment to improve independence with activities of daily living and to reduce risk of injury. This includes manual handling assessments to reduce risk of injury to service users and carers and, where feasible, reduce packages of care for single handed care.
4. To independently manage a caseload, utilising effective prioritisation, delegation and time management skills to enable effective throughput of service users.
5. To identify service users appropriate for Continuing Health Care to manage complex health needs
6. To identify Safeguarding concerns, complete thorough risk assessment and refer where appropriate to services to manage risk of harm to service users. This includes situations where people may be neglected or abused in accordance with the Inter-Agency Policy and Procedures for Safeguarding Adults
7. To assess capacity and ability to make informed decisions relating to assessment process as per Care and Mental Capacity Act.
8. To ensure cost effective service provision and make recommendations for specialist equipment and adaptations in accordance with eligibility criteria and departmental guidelines.
9. To complete carers assessments to support informal carers in their role and manage risk of carer breakdown
10. To keep accurate and up to date case records and written reports using council's IT systems and in line with statutory and local protocols. Ensure the highest level of data quality for all information recorded, ensuring that the information is consistently timely, accurate and complete to ensure the service meets the Professions and statutory recording requirements, including case recording on Mosaic.
